The NY Historical Society Takes Attendees to Freedom Across the Atlantic
Museum Exhibiton
How do you show how the ideas of liberty, emancipation and equality transformed culture and politics of the Atlantic world during the 18th century?
The design approach shows this world through the lens of the common man. Materials are age-old and rough around the edges, using textures of plaster and parchment. Colors are saturated to evoke weather and wear. Environmental graphics incorporate social and political commentary through line drawings, graffiti and cartoon art as well as millitary struggles captured in maps and seascapes. The metaphor of “the common wind” ties each of the content areas together.
